Slurt! Manual / Guide
How to Play

Slurt! is a table-top trivia game for 2 to 4 players and it plays similar to the TV show called Jeopardy, except you don't need to form your answers like question.  You simply fill in the missing blank or complete the trivia fact with a one-word answer.

It's really easy to play.  Sit down, click BEGIN, and start answering trivia facts in five seconds!  Zoom into the game table!!  You are assigned a colored piece matching your seat, and the goal is to be the first to get your piece around the board and into Home.  For each trivia fact, a random number of moves is generated (from 1 to 6).  If you are the first person to answer correctly, your piece moves that number of places.  You get 15 seconds for each question.

This is truly an exciting game with many features.  Here is a complete guide to playing Slurt!

  Basic Steps:

  • Slurt! requires at least 2 players minimum - you can have up to 4.

  • Everyone sits down and is assigned the piece that matches their stool color.

  • Everyone should zoom into the table.  Someone clicks "Begin" on the table.

  • The table displays the trivia facts, so zoom in on the table surface.

  • Trivia begins after about 5 seconds.

  • A random number of moves (from 1 to 6) is generated, and shown.

  • Read the category and the trivia fact.

  • You've got 15 seconds to answer.

  • Type your answer in local chat and press ENTER.

  • Answers are one word only - any numbers are typed out (3 would be three).

  • The first person to type the correct answer advances on the board.

  • Incorrect answers are ignored.

  • If no correct answer is typed, or everyone passes, the correct answer is shown.

  • After about 5 seconds, another trivia fact is shown.

  • Play continues until someone gets their piece Home.  First person Home wins!!

  Speeding Up Game Play:

  • During play, if you don't know the answer, type pass in chat.

  • Note: Once you pass, you can no longer guess answers.

  • If everyone passes, the answer will be shown and the round ends.

  • Nobody advances.  A new question appears after 5 seconds.

Nobody Answers / Nobody Answers Correctly:

  • The time to answer is 15 seconds.

  • If nobody answers, or nobody answers correctly, the timer will run out.

  • The answer will be shown, and nobody advances.

  • A new question appears after 5 seconds.

  Pause Game:

  • SL can be hectic, so can RL - we can't avoid that.

  • Any player seated can type pause in chat to pause the game. (can also use the MENU)

  • The trivia is hidden, the game is paused, and the timer stops.

  • When you are ready to resume, any player can type resume in chat.  (or use the MENU)

  • The timer will start right where it left off and there maybe be very few seconds remaining!

  • You CAN resume without someone, in the event they do not return.

  • NOTE:  You cannot pause a game if no trivia is displayed.  If you are between rounds or waiting for a trivia fact, wait until it is shown - then pause the game.

  Beware of the Whammy!

Before each question is shown, the whammy randomly jumps around looking for a place to stop.  If you land on this, you must go back to where you started from.  So, if you moved 6 spaces, you go back 6 spaces.

What if I Land on Another Player's piece/ square?

You get a bonus block!  That's right, your piece will advance over the top of that player and land on the next block - even if it means you end up in the Home square!

What if You... ?

  Can't see the text?

  • Click the Slurt! cards on the corner of the table.

  • You will get the category and question shown in local chat.

  • Note:  This is private to you - nobody else can see it.

  • If you don't like this option, there is another!

  • By default, all questions are shown only on the game table.

  • To also have them displayed in local chat, click OPTIONS, and choose NOISY.

  • Note:  This is visible to everyone within chat range of the game table.

  • You can switch it back to QUIET any time.  Noisy/Quiet does not refer to sound.

  • And if that wasn't enough, there is another option!!

  • Click the OPTIONS on the table and choose HUD from the menu.

  • You get a HUD that you can attach (ADD) to your screen.

  • The HUD shows the category and question - and the correct answer when shown.

  • Note:  Anything on the HUD is private to you - nobody else can see it.

  • If you still can't see anything or are having issues, I can't do any more for this.  Sorry.

  Want to Quit the Game?

  • If you don't want to continue playing, stand up.

  • Your piece is sent Home and your name is removed from the game.

  • When only one player remains, the game resets - You must have 2 or more players.

  • The game owner can reset the game from the menu, forcing everyone to stand up.

Crash / Log Out / Stand Up:

  • The game will know when you are gone.

  • You can rejoin the game if you crash, log off, or stand up.

  • You will loose your progress and start from the Home position.

  • If you must go AFK, stay seated.  It won't affect the game or other players.

  • If you want to pause while you're afk, type pause.

  • Note:  Other players can un-pause the game without you!

  Join A Game In Progress:

  • You CAN join a game in progress.

  • You can also answer the current question when you join.

  • You must start in the Home position, however.

Other Features...

Want to make it more intense?

  • Turn on MEAN mode in the OPTIONS menu.

  • This will force you to get the answer correct on your first guess.

  • Get it wrong and you must wait for the next question!

  • You can switch it back to NICE if that is just too mean for you.

  • If you enable this, be fair and tell all players before you begin playing.

  • NOTE:  This option is only available between games.  You can't access it during a game or between rounds.

How about answers that are close to being right?  Do they count?

Well, sort of... yes.  There is a feature built in called CLOSE or EXACT.  When your game ships, EXACT is the default mode.  You must answer the questions exactly to get them right.  But if you enable the CLOSE mode, a very restricted exception can be made.  For example:  If the answer is EARS and you type EAR in Close mode, you will be given the exception.  This is the only exception.  The English language is full of pluralization rules and accounting for all of them far exceeds the function of this game.

  Don't like the sounds?

  • Click OPTIONS on the table and choose Sound Off.

  • You can turn them back on later with Sound On.

  • This affects all sounds and can be toggled any time the Options menu is available.

How many questions are in the game?  Are there duplicates or repeat questions?

Your game comes with 1200 questions from a ton of categories covering every kind of topic you can imagine.  There will be other question modules (300 questions per module) available for sale containing new questions when they are ready.  There are no repeat questions.  Some may seem similar, but they are not.  Some answers may be the same, but this is normal.  For example, look at the following two question examples:

  1. It is round, full of air, and its target is a basket.

  2. You might wear a fancy gown or a tuxedo to this.

In the examples above, the answer for both is ball.  But the questions are different.  I've done my very best to ensure no duplicate questions exist.  Also, please note that some answers may be the same for the same topic - but again, the questions will differ.  You can have many questions regarding a single topic.  For example:

  1. Crab, Macintosh, Pink Pearl

  2. Eat this each day to keep the doctor away

  3. This might be given as a gift on your first day of school

In the above questions about the same topic, the answer is Apple.

Where do I get more trivia for the game?

I will be selling additional trivia facts on the Marketplace for 100L each.  You will get 300 new trivia facts in a convenient module you rez next to the game and click to install.  It's fast, easy, and will ensure you many hours of additional enjoyment!

What happens if you upgrade the game?  Do I lose my modules I bought?  Do I need to rez them all and install them again?

I made this process as easy as possible with the Backup & Restore Module that was included with your game purchase.  Simply rez it beside your table, click the MENU on the table, choose Backup, and your modules will all be saved in the Backup & Restore Module.  When you are ready to restore them, click MENU on the new table, choose Restore, and they will be installed for you.  Very easy!!  Please note there is a 1 second delay for each module backed up or restored, so if you have a lot, be patient.

I've played the game a LOT and now I think trivia facts are repeating.  What is going on?

Note card size limits from LL determine that only so much can go into a note card.  So, when the data has been all used up, it must do...SOMETHING.  Rather than tell you "sorry, there's no more trivia" - I decided to let the data roll over.  This is also the reason for having multiple modules installed to begin with, and for letting you purchase more later.  The more you have in your game the better it will be for you and your friends.  Trust me, you will want to get more modules!!!

I put out multiple Slurt! tables for my gaming area.  How do I get my modules installed in each table?

The easiest way to do this is to install your modules into one game, then take it into your inventory.  From there, you can rez out as many tables as you want and they will ALL contain your modules.  If you would rather do it the hard way, back up your modules to the Backup & Restore Module, then install them into each table, one at a time by clicking MENU on the table, and choosing Restore.

Tips, & Tricks

  NO cheating!

First, and foremost, don't cheat.  If you don't know the answer, it WILL be shown, so, cheating is pointless.
This can be a very educational game if you don't cheat.

  Get A Clue!

For helpful clues, always read the category above the question.  Categories can sometimes contain clues!

Example:

Category:  Words in Common
Question:  Fill it __ hill battle
Answer:  Up   >>>>>  (Fill it up, up hill battle)

In the above example, you might be lost without the category clue!

How Many Letters is the Answer?

If a word contains a fill in the blank, the number of letters in the answer is sometimes displayed.  Sometimes questions will include how many letters like this:  (4), meaning there are 4 letters.  Most questions do not tell you.

  Plural or Singular?

Look for hint words in the category or question like "these" or "they."

Plural Example:  They poke out from the side of your head
Answer:  Ears  - (Ear would be incorrect)

Singular Example:  Ignoring undesirable information, you turn a blind this
Answer:  Eye - (Eyes would be incorrect)

  Close Enough?

Exact spelling only will be considered correct (see above:  Ears vs. Ear), by default.  There is an option in your game menu called CLOSE.  If you enable this, close answers will be accepted (within limits).  For example, if you typed ear and the correct answer is ears, your answer will be deemed correct.  This feature will only help with plurals ending in S, and is meant as a helper, not a cheat.  Please advise all players before starting, out of fairness.  To go back to the default, choose EXACT from the menu.

How Many Words for an Answer?

Answers are ONE WORD for ALL questions.  There are NO exceptions to this.

  What About Numbers?

Numbers are written out:  If the answer is 3, type: three
Example:  The wolf had this many pigs to deal with
Answer:  three

  Capitalization?

There is no need to capitalize any answer.  The game will recognize all combinations:  THIS, This, this, and tHiS are all valid.  Incorrect answers are ignored completely.

Very Important Info !

Never reset the scripts in your game.  There is a built in feature to reset things properly (click Options, Reset) ONLY if you are troubleshooting a failure in the game.  Using the viewer's reset scripts option can break your game.  If you have done this, I can't guarantee things will work properly.  If this happens, back up your modules (as detailed above) then rez a new table and perform a restore to get the data files back into the game.
